George “Ferocious” Kambosos Jr (16-0, 9 KOs) beat Venezuelan Richard Pena (11-2-1, 9 KOs) in a knockout victory at the Galatsi Olympic Arena in Athens, Greece on Friday.
“The event was very successful with a packed out and patriot Greek crowd. This was the first step in building and bringing boxing in Greece to a great level with myself leading the way,” Kambosos told GCT after his win.
“I fought a very smart, patient and explosive fight against a very tough young fighter who had an opportunity of a lifetime. Pena is a good young fighter who made a great account of himself with his long and awkward frame. I controlled the action and dropped Pena in round four with a solid left hook, but still the toughness of Pena he made the standing 10 count and continued to try win with everything he had. In round six after multiple heavy shots were landing the referee stopped the fight when Pena was out on his feet and could not defend himself.”
As the third highest rated lightweight in the world, Team Ferocious alongside Dibella Entertainment will be back early fall in a huge fight in the USA.
“Fighting in Athens, Greece was amazing and with how the fans reacted with so much excitement and honour that a fellow Greeks was representing them all gives me motivation to win the world title in the US and bring back some mega stadium fights here in Greece which could pack out over 100,000 people,” Kambosos said.
