World’s first Lost Atlantis museum opens its doors in Santorini

We have all heard of Atlantis, the legendary island that sank into the sea in a single day and night, with dialogues by Greek philosopher Plato mentioned in two of his writings, Timaeus and Critias. Here Plato refers to a mythical city – falling out of favor with the gods – and submerged into the ocean.

Since then, the world has been looking for the lost city of Atlantis and its location is a mystery.

Now, in a world first, Santorini has opened its doors to The Lost Atlantis Experience Museum, located in the heart of the caldera.

And there couldn’t be a better location than on one of the world’s most photographed islands – Greece’s Santorini, which is among the proposed locations for the lost city said to have once thrived somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea.

Though many destinations are claiming the location, the theory of Santorini appears to be gaining ground particularly when considering the Thera eruption which took place somewhere between the 17th and 16th century BC, causing a massive tsunami believed to have swallowed the lost city in its passing.

Visitors to the Lost Atlantis Experience Museum – a private initiative – will have the chance to learn more about Atlantis through the use of the newest interactive technologies, including 9D virtual reality, 3D holograms, and dioramas to experience everything from the island’s volcanic eruption and earthquake to the tsunami and the life of Plato.
