Locals in the Athens neighbourhood of Goudi have been left shocked with the news of a 68-year-old woman who killed her 92-year-old mother and then wrapped her body in a blanket before dragging her onto the street, where she was later found.
The key witness of this family tragedy told media how she saw the daughter dragging her mother’s body onto the street. “I saw this skinny lady coming down from the corner of Papadiamantopoulou Street, she was dragging a blanket with something heavy and I kept thinking to myself what is this woman doing? But I had no idea it was a dead body inside.”
The 68-year-old left her mother about 200 metres away from her home and the witness says she then saw the woman run off, before a person walking by opened up the blanket and found the dead body that was placed in front of a pharmacy.
The daughter later made a shocking statement to police, saying, “My mother recently had an operation and from the day she returned home from hospital her dementia had worsened. She kept telling me she wanted to be with her mother and father. That day she was lying down and she started telling me the same thing. I couldn’t stand it anymore and I decided it was the best time to make her happy and let her reunite with her parents. I closed her mouth with tape. She responded a little, but I insisted and a few seconds later she was dead.”
According to CNN Greece, the 68-year-old said her mother was very irrational and they argued every day. “She would blame me for stealing things she couldn’t find and our fights were getting worst and worst. I was taking care of her from the time I divorced my husband and I couldn’t take it anymore.”
The woman has now been charged with her mother’s murder and will face court.
