Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said that "all Greeks, are and should know it and feel it, totally safe" at the conclusion of the extraordinary meeting of the Government's Council for Defence and Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

Earlier the Greek PM warned Turkey over its disregard for international law with their illegal drilling Cyprus' EEZ saying “it is not an indication of power but of weakness”.

Greece is a strong country and in the last period has achieved to form very strong alliances, stronger than never before, said Tsipras.

Referring to his phone call to Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades during the meeting of KYSEA, he said that they discussed the steps they will follow in the context of EU in which participate both countries. "We agreed to pave the way in order for the EU Summit next week to take the necessary decisions, even to impose sanctions against Turkey if it is confirmed that it started drilling inside Cyprus' EEZ.

Moreover, according to government sources, during the meeting the next steps at diplomatic level were decided in coordination with the Republic of Cyprus and there will be a preparation ahead of the imminent EU Summit along with a series of meetings with country leaders that are playing a key role.

On his part, Foreign Minister George Katrougalos will leave for Brussels to take part in the Foreign Affairs Council where he will hold meetings with his European counterparts and with the Foreign Minister of Cyprus.

Government sources also said that after KYSEA meeting, the Prime Minister had a meeting with Defence Minister Evangelos Apostolakis with whom they mutually agreed not to be candidate in the national elections in order to continue his mission as head of the Greek Armed forces undisturbed.
