British grandfather goes missing during holiday in Zakynthos

The family of a British grandfather who has gone missing in Zakynthos are appealing for information to help trace him.

John Tossell, 73, set off to walk the monastery of Mount Skopos on June 17 and has not been seen since then.

Greek emergency services have been searching for him, but no trace has been found.

His family from Bridgend in Wales have flown to Zakynthos and are hoping to track down a couple who spoke to him on the day he went missing.

Mr Toddell’s daughter Katy told media there was a confirmed sighting of her father at a cafe near Mount Skopos, which is close to the village of Argassi at around 3pm on June 17. He is believed to have spoken to a lady between 45-55 years old with shoulder length blonde hair who was with her partner.

"We need to try and find this couple but we are also appealing for information from anyone that potentially may have seen him on his walk back down the mountain, but might now have flown home," she said.

Greek authorities have been searching the area, in the hope of finding Mr Tossell who was wearing a khaki hat, a light blue T-shirt and beige knee length shorts.

The terrain in the search area is described as being very rugged and almost impossible to cover by foot.

Anyone with information can call the local emergency number in Greece on 100 or 112.
