Very high temperatures, in some cases reaching as high as 41°C, are forecast to hit Greece from Wednesday until Friday.

According to the Athens National Observatory's meteo weather service, the warm air masses which hit Western Europe, are moving eastward and will gradually affect Eastern Europe including Greece.

The worst of the heat will be felt in the central parts of the mainland and the northern-northeastern Aegean. The islands of the Cyclades and Crete are not expected to feel the mini-heat wave quite as intensely, as a result of the cool summer Etesian winds.

The high temperatures are expected to drop from Friday, while rain and storms are expected to fall in the northern and central parts of the country in the afternoon on Thursday and on Friday.

Make sure you pack your water, sunscreen, umbrella and hats before you go outside!
