Interior Minister Antonis Roupakiotis announced on Sunday evening that there will be a repeat election at a particular polling station on July 14, following the theft and destruction of a ballot box.

According to authorities, an unknown anarchist group calling themselves 'Ballot-hunting Arsonists' claimed responsibility on Monday for the snatching and burning of a ballot box in the central Athens district of Exarcheia during Sunday’s general elections.

A group of unknown hooded individuals had stormed the 33rd polling station on Koletti Street on Sunday evening, three minutes before the official end of the electoral process, grabbed one of the ballot boxes and fled. Some 207 voters had managed to cast a vote before the theft, according to a ministerial announcement.
