Eurogroup eager to see the new Greek government’s economic programme

In a statement issued on Monday, Eurogroup officials said they are eagerly awaiting the Mitsotakis government new economic programme, while sending a message that there will be no renegotiation of targets for the primary surplus.

"My message to every government in the eurozone is that the political and economic process must be resilient to the economic and political circles; that is the only way to achieve credibility," said Eurogroup President Mario Centeno, stressing that "commitments are commitments."

"If someone breaks them, it is the first step to lose confidence, which leads to a reduction in investment and ultimately growth," he said.

On his part, European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici said that "Greece has made a good start after the programme, although many challenges remain."

He also thanked outgoing ministers Euclid Tsakalotos and Giorgos Chouliarakis for the cooperation and wished that cooperation with the new government will also be productive and efficient.
