Russian S-400 missile system arrives in Turkey

The first shipment of Russian made S-400 air defense missile system equipment has arrived in Turkey on Friday, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s decision to purchase the S-400 system, Russia’s most advanced anti-aircraft weaponry, compromises the US-Turkish relations which have seen the two NATO allies at odds over issues such as Syria.

The rest of the shipment will continue to be delivered in the coming days.

The United States has said that if fellow NATO member Turkey does not cancel the S-400 deal by July 31, Ankara will be blocked from purchasing the next-generation F-35 fighter jets.
