Athens airport awards Turkish Airlines

Whilst Greece and Turkey engage in political skirmishes over the Aegean, Athens International Airport awarded Turkey’s national air carrier for its enormous contribution to passenger traffic into Greece.

The award was presented to Turkish Airlines in recognition for its impressive growth rate in the last five years during a special ceremony held in the airport area.

"Turkish Airlines' contribution to the tourist and aviation development of the Athens market is particularly important to us. This award reflects our philosophy as we move on to a mutually beneficial future. We continue to support Turkish Airlines in a spirit of effective cooperation,” said Ioanna Papadopoulou, Communications and Marketing Director of Athens International Airport.

Speaking on behalf of Turkish Airlines, Alp Yavuzeser, General Manager of Turkish Airlines in Greece, said that the award “is an important acknowledgement of our uninterrupted work in Greece. At Turkish Airlines, we strive to offer our customers the best travel experience and recognition from the largest airport in the country, Athens International Airport, is extremely important for us."

According to an announcement issued by Turkish Airlines on Monday, the company- which flies to more countries than any other airline, with 310 destinations in 124 countries- has experienced remarkable growth in Greece, bringing in more than half a million passengers for the first time in 2018 and contributing to the increase in passenger traffic in the country.
