Archbishop Elpidophoros of America meets with US President Trump

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America met with President Donald Trump at the White House Oval Office yesterday, July 16, 2019.

The meeting was also attended by US Vice President Mike Pence and the Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar.

During this time, the Archbishop had the opportunity to thank the President for a) sending his representative at the enthronement ceremony; b) his warm congratulatory letter on assuming his new position; c) his sincere support to the sacred institution of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and d) the constantly demonstrated sensitivity of the President to the protection of Christians throughout the world.

The President also indicated particular interest for the Orthodox Church and promised continued support for the activities and the work of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

After the meeting, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros commented that President Trump “was very friendly and cordial. I thanked him for his support for the Christians all over the world and especially for his support for the Ecumenical Patriarchate."
