Doctors and other medical staff on the island of Samos are under suspicion for allegedly issuing fake medical certificates to asylum seekers, with a number already charged and arrested authorities announced.
Specifically, police investigators from the Northern Greece Internal Affairs Service have called in numerous doctors, nurses and interpreters on the island of Samos for questioning since Wednesday morning, as part of an investigation into fraudulent medical certificates given to asylum seekers to enable their transfer to the mainland.
According to authorities, more than five people from Samos Hospital have already been arrested and charged with facilitating the classification of asylum seekers as members of vulnerable groups to speed up their transfer off the island.
