The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) ship 'Blue Panda' is visiting three iconic Ionian islands- Zakynthos, Ithaca and Kefalonia, to raise awareness of the current environmental challenges faced by marine life in the Mediterranean.
The ship will be in Zakynthos from July 20-22 , Ithaca from July 24-26 and Kefalonia from July 28-30.
During the ship's visit to the islands which are under threat from hydrocarbon, it will host a number of actions open to the public, aimed at raising awareness among the islands’ residents and visitors, mobilising them against the most serious new threat to Greece’s seas- exploitation of oil and natural gas.
Attendees will have the opportunity to partake in a number of activities including: an interactive photo exhibition on the impacts of hydrocarbon exploitation on the environment and the economy, a unique virtual-reality 'dive' to the depths of the sea, take souvenir photographs on board the WWF sailboat and most importantly send a loud message against hydrocarbon exploitation!
While being docked in Ithaca, on July 25 there will also be an unveiling of a large graffiti mural on the theme of hydrocarbon exploitation.
A special event will also be held on the island of Kefalonia. On July 29, a free music concert by singer-songwriter Matura Zamani will bring together the community to join voices against hydrocarbon exploitation in the Ionian Sea.
