Greece’s Kyridou and Bourbou win Gold at U23 World Championship

Greece’s Christina Bourbou and Maria Kyridou have been crowned world champions after winning gold at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Florida.

The dynamic pair from Thessaloniki has been rowing together for several years, winning the 2018 World Rowing Junior Championships and at the Olympic Youth Games in Buenos Aires.

The World Rowing Under 23 Championships event took place at Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida, United States with nearly 700 athletes competing from 53 nations.

Kyridou and Bourbou were clear favourites in the final after producing an outstanding performance on day three of Championships, as they took four seconds off the world best time for the age-group in reaching the final of the women’s pair.

 In the final, the Greek girls were in the lead from start till the end of the 2000m. and finished in 7.11.67, leaving South Africa in second place with 7.16.24 and third was Russia with 7.18.35.
