Giannis Antetokounmpo begins training with the Greek national team

Giannis Antetokonmpou joined the Greek national team on Monday to kick off their training camp for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

The Greek Basketball Federation yesterday announced that Giannis along with his brothers Thanasis and Kostas started practicing with the Greek National Team ahead of the 2019 FIBA World Cup, which begins on the 15th of September.

Antetokounmpo confirmed he would be playing for Greece during a presentation of his first signature shoe, the Zoom Freak 1, earlier this summer:

“I don’t know which position I will play in. But I don’t care. I just want to play. Whether I play as a guard or as a center, I don’t care. I’m a basketball player. I want to help the team in every way.”

The Greek Freak who was named NBA’s Most Valuable Player of the Year had an outstanding year with the Bucks, averaging 27.7 points on 57.8 percent shooting from the field, 12.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.3 steals in 32.8 minutes per outing.

Greece will start the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Group F against Brazil, New Zealand, and Montenegro. The top two teams from that group will advance to the second round (Group K), where they’ll face the top two sides from Group E (USA, Turkey, Japan, and the Czech Republic).
