Heatwave is set to hit Greece over the next few days

Over the next few days, temperatures are set to reach 40 degrees Celcius across Greece, with the National Meteorological Service issuing a weather warning on Wednesday at noon.

The heatwave is predicted to start tomorrow Thursday, August 8, and will first hit central, western and northern Greece.

According to reports, Friday will be the hottest day with the temperature reaching as high as 40 degrees Celsius in Central Greece, Thessaly, and Macedonia.

Authorities have issued a High Fire Risk throughout the regions of Attica, Voeotia, Evia, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria, Cyclades, Crete, Kythera, Laconia, and Corinthia.

Meteorologists predict the high temperatures will continue throughout next week and right through to Dekapentavgousto, August 15.

Public health officials advise the elderly and those with babies to stay indoors during the day and to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
