Man throws $5000 engagement ring off a Greek clifftop

Footage has recently circulated of a man who threw a $5000 engagement ring he brought for his girlfriend off a cliff in Greece two years ago, after she broke up with him before he proposed.

At the time, the twenty three year old, Brendan Beasley from Sydney secretly organised a trip of a lifetime to Greece where he planned to propose to his long-time girlfriend in Santorini.

Shortly before leaving for what he thought would be an unforgettable holiday, the girl broke his heart and broke up with him.

"After three years together, and for no reason at all … she ended up leaving me," he told News.com.au.

"I was gutted because I had actually bought her a ring and booked us a surprise trip to Santorini (to propose) because she always wanted to get engaged there," he continued.

Despite being heartbroken, Brendan went on the trip and took the ring with him, but when he discovered that his former girlfriend had moved on, he wanted to get rid of the 'burden'.

While watching the sunset in Santorini, he threw the $5000 ring in its box off a cliff and into the Aegean Sea, the impulse decision which he notes he has no regrets about.

"The moment I threw the ring, a whole lot of weight lifted off my shoulders...I really found myself in Europe after that."

“All my mates said that what I did was ridiculous and a waste of money...I copped a fair bit of abuse for it … and it was a hard decision to throw the ring. But after she got with another guy — who she is still with — I knew the ring would be worth nothing and that throwing it away would be a more powerful moment than just going to get the money back for it,” he added.

Two years later and Brendan still has no regrets throwing the $5000 ring off a cliff, as he stated it "worked out better for me."
