Seven students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki have proudly returned to their university on Monday with five medals that they earned after competing in the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
The IMC is an annual mathematics competition open to all undergraduate students of mathematics.
The young Greek mathematicians accumulated a silver medal, four bronze medals and two honorary mentions among a total of 360 competitors from 64 countries.
They were selected to represent their university through a competition held by the Mathematics Department in May 2019, with their trip covered by the uni.
The students who were mostly first, second and third year students from the university;s engineering department, competed with fellow college students in Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Geometry and Combinatorics.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the sixth oldest and among the most highly ranked tertiary education institutions in Greece.
This year's International Mathematics Competition was organised by University College London and hosted by the American University in Bulgaria.
