It’s as if you have entered a Fourno/Zaharoplastio (Greek bakery/sweet shop) in Greece, when you enter ‘Alevri’ located in Dulwich Hill, Sydney, Australia.
Your nose will tingle from the beautiful aromas and immediately your stomach will send a message to your brain that you crave delicious, home-made, mouthwatering Greek sweets and pastries.
‘Alevri’ is the brainchild of creative cafe entrepreneur Aki Daikos and his wife Kathy, who together with their legendary team bring a contemporary Greek food hall that showcases the flavour, diversity, provenance and sheer quality that Greece has to offer and Australians yearn for.
“We're opening up Alevri because it’s a love and a passion of ours and there is a real gap in the market for Greek daily eats like you would find in Greece. A place where you can relax, unwind and enjoy the atmosphere and flavours of Greece without actually being there” Aki stated.
In Greek, the word ‘Alevri’ means “flour”, the core ingredient used in every bake house.
Hungry customers can expect to find food that is thoughtfully created according to Greek family baking traditions including Peynerli (a boat-shaped pizza with a fluffy and thick base), Tsoureki (a soft and fluffy pastry with a beautiful brown semi-soft crust that is rich in flavour) and the Signature Aussie Moussaka pie (traditional flavours of Moussaka enveloped within an Aussie pastry shell), amongst many other choices that will stare at you until you eat them.
How could we forget to mention there is also the most amazingly mouthwatering pites, pastry tarts, whole cakes, paninis, puff pastries, koulouria, Baklava cheesecake, Mediterranean breakfast boards, Mykonian Scrambled Eggs, Alevri Club Sandwich, Corinthian Benedict, Athenian Baked Eggs, traditional Greek Frappe, Greek coffee made in the sand (Hovoli) and imported drinks.
