The UN refugee agency has urged the Greek government to urgently transfer migrant youths to safe areas after a teenager was killed and two others were injured, following a brawl at the Moria refugee Camp in Lesvos.

"The Greek government must take urgent measures to ensure that these children are transferred to a safe place," UNHCR representative in Greece, Philippe Leclerc said in a statement.

According to reports, on Saturday night tensions exploded inside the 'safe zone' of the camp’s juvenile ward, where more than 600 unaccompanied minors are staying which is designed to hold just 160.

A 15-year-old Afghan boy fatally stabbed a compatriot and injured two others.

The two injured boys were admitted to hospital, where one required life-saving surgery.

A fourth teenager, also from Afghanistan, was arrested by police in connection with the violence, the UNHCR said.

The cause of the fight is not yet known.

According to the UN, Moria refugee Camp hosts more than 9,000 refugees and migrants, which is four times the camp's capacity.
