A magnitude 4 earthquake has striked 25km NW of Athens, according to reports from the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

The earthquake occurred shortly before 9.30 a.m. and was centered 6 kilometers north of Magoula. The depth was estimated at 2km.

According to witness accounts, a brief and gentle shake was felt in the North-Eastern suburbs of Athens.

Efthymios Lekkas, the head of the national earthquake planning and protection agency, told Kathimerini that this was an aftershock from the stronger quake that hit the Greek capital of Athens on the 19th July.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries.
