A 73-year-old man is facing animal cruelty charges after tying a dog to the back of his car and dragging it along a road in Rethymno, Crete.
Authorities tracked down the man after a witness posted a photo of the incident on social media, showing the vehicle’s license plate.
When he was arrested, the man told police that the dog was a stray that he found in his field and decided to drag it behind his vehicle (after the dog refused to get into his car) to stop it from eating sheep in the area and getting shot by angry farmers.
According to unconfirmed reports, the dog survived the ordeal.
