A joyful wedding celebration turned violent when two tax inspectors crashed a wedding reception party and were attacked by guests in Serres, Northern Greece.

According to media reports, the incident occurred on August 31 when the inspectors visited the venue to check on the books, not knowing that there was a wedding party happening in the main hall.

The owner of the venue reportedly announced on the microphone that inspectors were at the venue, telling the guests that the service of food and beverages would be suspended until they had left.

The news infuriated guests and prompted as many as 50 people, along with the owner to attack the tax inspectors, who were in the kitchen at the time.

Other reports state that the attack was prompted by the inspectors' refusal to leave on the request of the groom's father.

Dimitris Saitanoudis, the spokesman for Serres tax officers told Eleftheros Typos newspaper that the injured inspector who was treated for a concussion, has photographs showing how his shirt and trousers were torn in the attack.

The venue's owner has been arrested.
