Greece lights up Winter Youth Olympic Games

Greece lit and handed over the Olympic flame for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens on Tuesday.

The torch ceremony took place in the presence of nearly 2,000 athletes aged 14 to 18 from throughout the world and was followed by a torch relay race.

The torch was then handed over to the Lausanne Games organising committee president Virginie Faivre, the multiple freestyle skiing world champion, by Hellenic Olympic Committee president Spyros Kapralos.

The event was attended by Greek officials which included Tourism Minister Haris Theocharis, and the Deputy and Secretary General of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis and Giorgos Mavrotas, respectively.

The torch will remain lit until the opening ceremony of the Games, which will run from January 9 to 22 in the swiss city of Lausanne.
