Greece to celebrate European Heritage Days with free entry to archaeological museums and sites

To help celebrate European Heritage Days 2019, archaeological sites and museums across Greece will be open to the public free of charge from September 27 to 29.

The Ministry for Culture announced that the annual event, held by the Council of Europe and the European Union, is designed to promote the continent’s diverse cultural heritage and encourages greater tolerance for other cultures across Europe.

The event gives visitors the opportunity to explore some of Greece’s best museums and archaeological sites free of charge, with the common theme throughout Europe for this year being "Arts and Entertainment".

The Ministry announced that around 100 sites across the country, including museums, monuments, and archaeological sites, will have special activities and festivities specifically designed to highlight the arts and entertainment field.

Greece will also celebrate World Tourism Day on Friday, September 27, with free admission to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum in Athens, with special events also being held at Syntagma Square.

The Greek Tourism Ministry is inviting all guests to participate in the celebrations and visit the archaeological site of the Acropolis, with free admission from 9am to 12pm.

Visitors will also have the chance to enter the Acropolis Museum free of charge from 5pm until 10pm.
