5.1 magnitude tremor shakes the island of Rhodes

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) a strong earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has just hit Rhodes island today, Thursday, October 3rd, at 07:44 am.

According to the EMSC, the focal depth of the earthquake was 16.8 km, with an epicentre of 37 km southeast of Rhodes, a popular tourist destination of the Dodecanese. 

The centre of Rhodes Town and surrounding areas were most affected and authorities say seismic waves were felt in many parts of the southeastern Aegean and in areas of Turkey that are closest to the island of Rhodes.

So far there have been no injuries or significant damages reported.
