Authorities on the island of Lesvos announced that a total of 703 refugees and migrants arrived on the island between Tuesday midnight and Thursday noon.
Already congested and the focal point of recent protests that resulted in deaths, Lesvos has now officially exceeded 13,000 while the transfer of 570 asylum seekers from Moria to the Greek mainland is scheduled for this Sunday.
The number of those hosted in overcrowded Moria migrant reception centre has increased by 140 percent in the period July-September 2019 (from 5,500 to 13,200) while 4,000 people have been taken from Lesvos to reception facilities on the mainland during the same period.
