Dramatic shelf cloud rolls over Athens

By 5 years ago

Athenians experienced a dramatic weather phenomenon on Thursday afternoon as a massive storm cloud rolled over the skies above the Greek capital.

Just before a massive storm swept through Athens, locals and visitors had the opportunity to witness this exceptional gigantic cloud formation and made sure they took as many photos as possible to capture the moment.

A shelf cloud is a low-hanging, wedge-shaped formation that occurs along the leading edge of a gust front in a thunderstorm, and they most often form just ahead of intense lines of thunderstorms.

So far Greece has experienced a warm and dry Autumn, however, meteorologists predict it is set to change with heavy rain expected across the country over the next few days.
