Greece’s Tsitsipas advances to China Open semi-final

Greece’s young tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas produced a great performance on Friday at the China Open to beat American John Isner 7-6(3), 6-3 in 73 minutes for a place in the semi-finals.

Third-seeded Tsitsipas dominated in the first-set tie-break, then opened up a 3-0 advantage in the second set en route to his 41st match win of the year. Tsitsipas, who won 91 percent of his first-service points and hit eight aces to Isner’s 81 percent and nine aces, struck 25 winners and committed just seven unforced errors.

It was Tsitsipas’ first win over Isner, who had won their two previous FedEx ATP Head2Head meetings at the 2017 Rolex Shanghai Masters and 2018 Wimbledon.

21-year-old Tsitsipas, who is currently ranked seventh in the world will face sixth-ranked Alexander Zverev, later today for a place in the final.

Good luck Stefanos!
