A 68-year-old woman has been charged with murdering her 73-year-old husband in Messinia in the Peloponnese after she poured boiling hot water from a saucepan over him and bashed the elderly man with a rolling pin.

According to reports, the couple was arguing at their home in the town of Skala, Messinia on Sunday when the elderly woman grabbed a wooden rolling pin and began hitting her husband over the head with it. She then immediately threw hot water at him which she had boiling on the stove, severely burning the man.

The 73-year-old victim was taken to Kalamata Hospital by ambulance, in a serious condition, suffering severe burns and craniocerebral injuries. Doctors were unable to save the man from sustained injuries and he died on Monday morning.

Neighbours told the media that they were in disbelief as they were not aware of any issues between the husband and wife, who were well-known and liked by the local community. However, the wife has since told her lawyer that her husband was abusive towards her and she could no longer tolerate his aggression.

The 68-year-old woman has been arrested with the murder of her husband and will appear in a local court later this week.
