Greece's former Finance Minister Yiannis Varoufakis called on Parliament to call for a ceasefire in Syria by way of a formal resolution.
Varoufakis, who leads the MeRA25 political party sent a letter to the parliament president, asking that parliament adopt a resolution for an immediate ceasefire on the Turkish-Syrian border, a no-fly zone over north Syria and the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid.
"On behalf of MeRA25 parliamentary group, I send you a proposal for a resolution by the Greek parliament, with which the national representation will call on the other EU member-states, the European Commission and the international community to join in demanding and immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Syria, a no-fly zone over north Syria, and the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid to the stricken areas of north Syria," said Varoufakis.in his letter.
Varoufakis noted that such a resolution has a humanitarian dimension with respect to the Kurdish people and a historic dimension with respect to the people of Cyprus
