Odeon of Herodes is illuminated pink in honour of Breast Cancer awareness month

Athens’ historical Odeon of Herodes Atticus was illuminated pink last night in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness month, which takes place all around the world in October.

The illumination of the ancient site was part of the Estee Lauder Companies worldwide campaign which illuminates landmark buildings to highlight the fight against breast cancer.

According to Estee Lauder, “The campaign this year focuses on the need to act, through a simple but powerful message with a worldwide appeal: the hope for a cure unites us all. Let’s put an end to it! It’s # TimeToEndBreastCancer.”

The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign unites and inspires people globally in its mission to create a breast cancer-free world. Founded in 1992 by the late Evelyn H. Lauder with the launch of the iconic Pink Ribbon, The Breast Cancer Campaign is The Estée Lauder Companies’ largest corporate philanthropic initiative and is supported by our employees worldwide. The Breast Cancer Campaign has raised more than $79 million to support global research, education and medical services, with more than $65 million funding 260 medical research grants through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Estee Lauder Hellas joined forces with the Hellenic Cancer Society this year and through targeted actions throughout the year, as well as through the sale of the pink ribbon bracelet, they are hoping they will raise enough funds so that they can spread the message of prevention in a different and personal way.

Starting in November, free mammograms will be offered to thousands of women through the mobile mammography unit that will pass through cities and villages across Greece. The mobile mammogram unit visit details will be announced soon.
