Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday praised the decision by the Bank of China to open a branch in Athens.
The Greek PM made the comments to waiting media in Shanghai during his visit to the China International Expo in Shanghai, which had Greece as one of the honoured countries.
Mitsotakis said that "the agreement with the banks is particularly important. The Bank of China is the 4th largest bank in the world. To put only a small part of its balance sheet to Greece would be very important.”
The Greek government delegation headed by Prime Minister Mitsotakis met with senior Chinese government officials during their visit in an effort to strengthen bilateral ties and more importantly increase trade and investment into Greece.
"We have opened up a rather big investments agenda relating to electricity, 'smart' cities, and renewable energy sources. I believe that very important agreements will be reached. It has been a sizeable business mission and a challenge for us, to see what we can achieve when we operate in a well-organized manner," Mitsotakis noted.
