Greece is the first country to adopt the working definition of Holocaust denial

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with members of the Central Jewish Council of Greece on Friday, on the eve of Kristallnacht, to discuss government initiatives in the fight against anti-Semitism, as Greece prepares to assume the Presidency in 2021 of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

"Greece is the first country to adopt the working definition of Holocaust denial, a landmark act,” said the Prime Minister, following his meeting with special secretary for Anti-Semitism and Anti-Defamation of the Holocaust, Efstathios Lianos Liantis.

Liantis briefed the Greek PM on Greece's adoption of the working definitions on antisemitism and Holocaust deniers by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

Greece’s assumption of the IHRA presidency, will coincide with the 200th anniversary of the start of Greece's War of Independence.

According to an announcement from the Prime Minister’s office the occasion will also focus on promoting the 2,000-year history of Greek Jews.
