Austrian Airlines announced on Wednesday direct flights from Vienna to the city of Kavala in Northern Greece and the island of Samos taking off in 2020.
The announcement was made at a special event in the Austrian capital co-organided by myAustrian Holidays, Austrian Airlines and the Greek National Tourism Organisation in Austria, where it was underlined that the new routes bring the Vienna-Greece direct flights total to sixteen.
Notably, there is presently no other low-cost direct flights connecting Vienna to either Kavala or Samos whilst Greece remains a top holiday destination for the 400,000 annual Austrian tourists who visit the country.
According to data published by Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung, holiday bookings by Austrians for 2020 have gone up by yet another 10% in 2019, compared to the 21% rise in 2018 (up from 2017 figures).
The new Austrian Airlines flights will commence in May 2010, with the Vienna to Kavala flight flying on Fridays starting from May 20, and from May 26 the Vienna to Samos flight will fly on Tuesdays.
