Greece’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ Eleftherios Petrounias has advanced to the finals at the Cottbus Apparatus World Cup in Germany, which will be the final gymnastics World Cup for 2019 and a chance for gymnasts to earn some valuable Olympic qualification points.
Petrounias secured a spot for Saturday’s final in the rings after a dynamic performance. Greece’s Olympic and three-time world champion came second with 14.933 points.
The Greek gymnast will be competing for the gold medal against China’s Liu Yang who topped the standings in the men’s rings qualification with a total of 15,100 points to qualify in the first position.
The “Lord of the Rings" is the reigning Olympic champion on the event in addition to being a three-time world champion on rings, howeverPetrounias missed the entire first half of the world cup series due to an injury and operation.
