Vandals graffiti around Exarchia Square after major clean up

Unknown vandals have once again attacked Exarchia Square after Athens Municipality has spent the last month cleaning up the famous anarchist hotspot, giving the nighbourhood a much need overhaul.

After all the work and money spent on sprucing up the neighbourhood, vandals threw red paint and wrote slogans on the main statue at Exarchia Square.

The new vandalism took place 24 hours before the actual completion of the restoration work was carried out by the Athenian Municipality's workers, while the statue "Three Eros" was also vandalized a few weeks earlier.

Over the weekend a special workshop returned to the square to re-clean the statue, which was covered in red paint.

Teams have now been allocated to allow employees to carry out their work without being attacked by anarchists.

Since late September teams of tradesmen have been cleaning graffiti, adding new plants, upkeeping existing greenery, replacing bulbs in street lights, repairing electrical damage and replacing paving stones, in the hope of making the neighbourhood more enjoyable for locals and tourists.
