The Feast Day of Agios Porphyrios was commemorated on Monday, December 2nd at the first Orthodox Church to be built in Tanzania, in the depths of Africa.
The Divine Liturgy took place in the Orthodox Church at an altitude of 2000 metres, in a very remote area in East Africa.
Headed by the Divine Bishop of Arusha and Central Tanzania, His Grace Agathonikos, placed icons of the Archangels on both sides of the entrance of the Church at Agios Andronicus and Athanasia, the first Orthodox Church in Tanzania.
“They stand there, guardians of the Church, reminding all of us when we see them and those who enter the Church, that our lives must be "Angelic", in the spirit of the gospel and keeping the commandments of Christ,” said Father Agathonikos.
After the Divine Liturgy, a meal was offered to the faithful, which included many orphaned children who attended the service.
