Greece’s former Prime Minister, main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, claimed he had restored the country’s credibility in European and international affairs during his term in government.
Tsipras made the comments on Tuesday during his address at the 30th annual conference of the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, adding that it was achieved not only through Greece's exit from the memoranda, its return to international money markets and the restoration of its economic growth, but also by upgrading the country's geopolitical role.
“The new government has the privilege of setting off from the best possible starting point", but has "one basic obligation: not to reverse the good course, not to reverse the conditions of equitable growth that we passed on to it.” added Tsipras.
SYRIZA's leader underlined that Greece will be unable to play its role as a crucial country on the world map and a dynamic European economy- a hub for energy, technology, transport, trade, culture and tourism - "unless we are at the same time a pillar and a guarantee of peace, stability and security in our region."
Tsipras noted that he wanted to be absolutely clear: "What we expect from our partners, and in particular the U.S., are far more substantive condemnations regarding Turkey's recent, legally invalid agreements with Libya that blatantly violate international law."
