Unbeaten IBF #3 andWBO #5 lightweight contender, George Kambosos Jr put on an impressive performance in the ring and won a ten round split decision over former IBF champion Mickey “The Spirit” Bey, on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
After nine very close rounds, Kambosos dropped Bey with a right uppercut to the chin in the tenth round, then battered Bey for the rest of the way. Scores were 97-92, 96-93 Kambosos, 95-94 Bey. The 36-year-old Bey was fighting for just the second time in 3½ years.
Kambosos moved to 18-0 (10 KO) and stamped himself as a rising star of the lightweight division - with a title shot potentially coming in his next fight.
IBF title holder Richard Commey faced Teofimo Lopez on the same card, while Kambosos has also been touted for a potential stadium fight in Australia against lightweight megastar Vasiliy Lomachenko, who holds the WBO and WBA belts.
George celebrated his win on Instagram with all his followers, which you can see below.
