Homeless man burns down building in central Athens after lighting a fire to keep warm

By 4 years ago

A 59-year-old man has been charged for arson, after lighting a fire in a central Athens building early Sunday morning.

The man was taken to the Fire Investigation Department, Piraeus Street, where he finally confessed that he had gone to stay overnight in the building and lit candles to warm up, which probably caused the fire.

Authorities arrested the man and led him to the Prosecutor's Office of Athens which was briefed on the case, whilst the 56-year-old is being held on a charge of arson. He is expected to be referred to the prosecutor today (Monday).

On the suspect, authorities found Greek and Egyptian identity documents.
