Epirus has won a place in the Guinness Book of Records, claiming the world's largest Melomakarono ever baked!
Locals of Paramythia in Epirus prepared and baked the special "Artopoeio" Melomakarono in an industrial oven and presented it to the locals in the town square, where people of all ages had the opportunity to taste Greece’s much loved Christmas cookie.
The town celebrated with traditional dancing and Santa Claus made an appearance, at the event which honoured "art" of baking in Epirus.
To make the Melomakarono, it took 35kg of flour, 6.5kg of sugar, 18.5kg of oil, 6.5kg of orange and 20kg of syrup.
Mayor Yiannis Karagiannis wasin attaendance and wished everyone a Merry Christmas stressing, "we ought to do our best to enjoy a stress-free and beautiful celebration in a difficult time for the whole country. To offer moments of joy and hope for a better future and to allow our children to live with innocence.”
