Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, attended on Monday the graduation event for 1,500 special guards appointed to police units in Attica, who will assume their duties on Jan. 17.
The new graduates will join the motorcycle and rapid response units of the police (Dias and Drasi, respectively). Of the total, 150 will patrol courts and accompany suspects to and from detention. They were selected through the state examination agency ASEP, and their outfitting cost a total of 2,350,000 euros.
On the occasion, attending Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis said the ministry was promoting the hire of another 1,200 individuals for Greek border patrols. They will be appointed to areas as follows: 400 for the borders at Evros (NE Greece), and another 800 for the North & South Aegean.
They all will be hired on one-year renewable contracts.
