Greece’s favourite adopted son Tom Hanks, who is one of the globe's most loved actors tweeted for the first time since becoming an Honorary Greek, publishing a photo of his shadow cast on an ancient Greek statue and wishing everyone “Kronia Polla!”

Letting his followers and the world know he is overjoyed with becoming an Honorary  Greek citizen, Hanks wrote: “Starting 2020 as an Honorary citizen of all of Greece! Kronia pola! ( more or less, “happy year!”). Hanx!”

Greece’s President Prokopis Pavlopoulos recently signed a naturalisation order for Hanks, who is the husband of Greek American actress and producer Rita Wilson.

The famous actor was baptised Greek Orthodox before marrying Wilson in 1988 and the couple, who have been together for over 30 years, spend most of their summers on the Aegean, where they also catch up with other A-list celebrities at their holiday house at Antiparos.

In accordance with Greek law, individuals may be granted honorary naturalisation if they have “provided exceptional services to the country or whose naturalisation serves the public interest”.
