Greece’s former Prime Minister, main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras has condemned the killing of prominent Iranian General, Qasem Soleimani in a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad, during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Greece, Ahmad Naderi.
“The execution of the Iranian general is a violation of international law and contributes to the further destabilisation of Iraq and the broader region,” Tsipras stated, adding that what the U.S. did was also a violation of the principle of non-intervention in affairs of other countries.
Tsipras met with Naderi, at the request of the ambassador, with whom they discussed recent developments in the Middle East and especially in Iraq.
According to the SYRIZA statement, “the Iranian ambassador presented his country’s position on the execution of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in Iraq by American forces and the consequences this would have on the area.”
