The Greek government has cancelled the 'school holiday’ on the feast day of Three Holy Hierarchs (Trion Ierarchon), and announced it will from now on be a default school day.
The announcement was made by the Education Ministry on Monday. stating that the annual profession-specific national holiday on January 30, will be a school day.
This applies to both primary and secondary education, both public and private.
Up until now January 30 has kept schools closed to commemorate the patron saints of education, St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory the Theologian, St. John Chrysostom.
However, the ministry's announcement clarified that the Patron Saints of education will be commemorated on the day within the regular school schedule.
