A police officer from special operation team DIAS, was captured on CCTV camera hitting an 11-year-old boy after he stopped him for an identity check.
The incident was reported by hospital staff after the boy’s father took him for treatment.
The case caused the ire of the Minister of Citizen Protection Mr Michalis Chrisohoidis, who condemned the actions of the police officer saying that “whoever engages in unprovoked violence against anyone has no place working in the Greek police force. Whoever engages in violence against a child, has no place anywhere!”
The accused officer has been placed on administrative leave whilst authorities investigate the matter.
