Mama Jo’s, owned by Joanna Despas, a Greek migrant who arrived in the US in the 1960s, has been voted Best Breakfast Cart in New York!
The famous food stand, on the corner of 47th Street and Park Avenue has been there for 35 years. Not only is this establishment more or less an NYC landmark, the food which includes Jo’s handmade Tiropites, Spanakopites, Tsourekia, Baklava, Galaktoboureko, and other treats, have become favourites amongst New Yorker’s who line up each morning to grab their breakfast.
The menu not only includes plenty of Greek dishes but also pastry options such as crispy croissants and donuts filled with jam. For those looking for a protein punch, Jo cooks your eggs any way you like and there are plenty of salads on offer too!
Mama Jo is NYC’s oldest street food vendor and she says she isn’t planning on retiring her legendary food cart any time soon.
So if you are in midtown New York and want to grab yourself a traditional NY style bagel, breakfast sandwich or pastry and a cup of coffee, pay Mama Jo a visit!
