Priest found hanged in church on Halki island

The local community is in shock after a 59-year-old priest was found hanged in a church on the island of Halki.

“The incident felt like lightning in the wider area” around the Church of St. Athanasius, where the priest was found hanged while wearing his riassa in the women’s section of the church, Romfea reported.

The priest is reportedly from the Peloponnese region, where he will be laid to rest.

An ambulance rushed to the scene, where he was pronounced dead. Police are currently investigating the scene.

An autopsy is expected.
