Greece’s National Defence Ministry confirmed that the leadership of Turkish armed forces had arrived in Athens on Monday for a series of talks with their Greek counterparts.
According to the Ministry both military delegations agreed on restarting talks and confidence-building measures (CBM) which will be completed on 21 February, as a means to prevent tension and to reduce the risk of accidents.
Paradoxically, as talks commenced, Turkish F-16s continued to enter the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) without submitting flight plans.
On Monday, the armed forces registered 6 such infringements of Athens FIR and 34 violations of Greek national airspace by Turkish fighter planes in several regions of the Aegean Sea. In all cases, the Turkish jets were recognised and intercepted by Greek fighter jets.
